Q: Is iText really free?
A: The answer is simply no.
iText can call itself free software in the sense that its code is open source. But iText is now distributed under the AGPL license which is a copyleft license and can be used freely only in applications released under the same AGPL license. Otherwise, iText requires a paid license.
So all commercial, closed source applications require a license to integrate iText.
Since iText is not free, we suggest that you look into jPDFProcess, Qoppa’s library to create and manipulate PDF documents.
