Q: Is it possible to insert character “µ” in any form text field or text annotations using Qoppa’s PDF components?

A: Qoppa’s PDF engine support inserting “micro”, but not “mu” which are 2 characters that look the same visually. “micro” is Unicode 00B5 and “mu” is Unicode 03BC. This is a bit of an issue with the default character sets defined by PDF.

To insert the µ character, you can:

  • hold down the Alt key on your keyboard and then type 230 on the number pad
  • or
  • hold down the Alt key on your keyboard and then type 0181 on the number pad.

This can be used in PDF interactive form fields as well as text boxes and type writer annotations.

There is also a few other characters with the same issue, such as omega versus ohm.

We are aware of this issue and plan to do substitution in the future in order to support both characters.
